Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself | Episode 4

Welcome to the DJ In finance podcast and I’m a DJ that's into finance. In this podcast we're going to be going over my thoughts and ideas about personal finance and wealth building as I document my journey on the road to financial freedom. AndI haven't been doing a good job of that.

Whats going on, everyone. My name is Kamal Morrison aka swissthedj aka Mister Morrison. I’m a DJ and have been doing that for 15 years.

Reason I started the Podcast

I wanted to share stories and findings about financial freedom and investing as I found that not many people really talk about it. Very few people talk about building wealth and personal finance.

When I came across investing and the FIRE movement in my early 30’s, I was excited and amazed that someone could invest for an extended period of time, and reach financial freedom and have financial stability for life

What made me get into personal finance in the first place is when l purchased my first condo. That was such an experience and I never saw so much money disappear in a short amount of time. From closing fees, lawyer fees and development charges. I went into it not really knowing all the details.

After that I asked myself the question:

  • Is there a better way to be good with money ?

  • Can the average person have financial stability ?

  • Can the average person create wealth for themselves ?

The more I would share information with people from podcasts, books, youtube videos and experiences from my own investing, it was clear to me how many people were unaware of these topics. That was the main catalyst to start the podcast.

But like many journeys, mine hasn’t been a straight line. Life got in the way, priorities shifted, and honestly, I fell behind where I wanted to be. But today, at 42 years old, I’m hitting reset and relaunching this podcast. Why? Because I know I’m not the only one who feels like they’ve started late, or who worries they won’t catch up in time. This show is for all of us who are chasing financial freedom a little later than we planned.

Where Am I  At Now

Let me be real with you. I’ve been investing, but I’m behind compared to where I thought I’d be by now. My retirement accounts aren’t as big as they should be.

At my age I should have about 3 times my yearly salary or income in my investment accounts. I’m probably at 2 - 2.5 times right now. However, with my investments, cash on hand and equity in my home, I’m above the 3 times mark in networth.

I’ve made some good decisions, but also some mistakes. I know I don’t have decades to waste — every move counts more at this stage.I want to use this podcast as my accountability tool, my place to track progress, share wins, admit failures, and hopefully inspire you to keep pushing forward too.

What to expect from the podcast

So here’s what you can expect from this podcast moving forward. Each episode will be short — 10 to 15 minutes — and straight to the point. I’ll share what I’m learning, what I’m trying, and how my numbers change along the way.

Topics will range from late-start investing, side hustles, money management, to mindset shifts and financial mistakes I’ve made. I’m not here as a financial guru with all the answers. I’m here as someone in the trenches, figuring it out, and sharing it with you in real time.

If you’re listening and you feel behind, I want you to know: you’re not alone. It’s never too late to take control of your finances and build the freedom you want.

Follow along, and let’s grow together. This is the start of chapter two of my journey to financial freedom. And I’m glad you’re here with me.
